Energy Implications of Temperature Fluctuations in Photoionized Plasma

چکیده
We quantify the energy radiated through all the collisionally excited lines in a photoionized nebula which is permeated by temperature fluctuations. We assume that these correspond to hot spots which are the results of an unknown heating process distinct from the photoelectric heating. We consider all the effects of using a higher mean temperature (as compared to the equilibrium temperature) due to the fluctuations not only on each emission line but also on the ionization state of the gas. If this yet unknown process was to radiate a fixed amount of energy, we find that the fluctuations should correlate with metallicity Z when it exceeds 0.7 solar. The excess energy radiated in the lines as a result of the fluctuations is found to scale proportionally to their amplitude t. When referred to the total energy absorbed through photoionization, the excess energy is comparable in magnitude to t.

Relation between Source and Temperature Fluctuations in Photoionized Nebulae
The magnitude of the temperature fluctuations (t) required to explain the observed inconsistencies between metallicities inferred from recombination lines and from forbidden lines cannot be attained by steady-state equilibrium photoionization models. If, on the other hand, the nebular ionizing source were variable, the temperature fluctuations t would be significantly larger. We investigate the...
متن کاملNumerical study of heat gradient and crossing energy to around building walls containing phase change materials in Kashan temperature conditions
The application of phase change materials (PCM) in the variant parts of building because of the high capacity these materials, lead to an improvement in temperature conditions and reduction in energy consumption. Due to the high dependency of the performance of these materials to the ambient temperature fluctuations, their applications in climates with extreme temperature fluctuations has a sig...
متن کاملCoupled Radial and Thermal Fluctuations of Ignited Tokamak Plasmas*
The coupling between radial motion and tcmperature fluctuations of an ignited D-T tokamak plasma are studied using a onc-dimensional transport model. The energy balance equations are linearized about the thermal equilibrium (i.e., ignition) point and an eigenvalue analysis is used to determine the growth rate of perturbations. If the density dynamics are relatively slow, it is found that thcre ...
متن کاملElectron-ion recombination measurements of Fe, Fe, Fe motivated by active galactic nuclei x-ray absorption features
Recent spectroscopic models of active galactic nuclei have indicated that the recommended electron-ion recombination rate coefficients for iron ions with partially filled Mshells are incorrect in the temperature range where these ions form in photoionized plasmas. We have investigated this experimentally for Fe forming Fe, Fe forming Fe, and Fe forming Fe. The recombination rate coefficient was...
